Rosarito is a coastal resort city in the Mexican state of Baja California located approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of the U.S. border in Rosarito Beach Municipality. Often mistakenly called Rosarito Beach because of the well-known Rosarito Beach Hotel, the town of Rosarito is one part of the municipality named Playas de Rosarito (“”Beaches of Rosarito””).
Its beaches and dance clubs are a popular destination for young people from the United States during the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Rosarito Beach is the seat of the municipality of Rosarito Beach. The city is the second largest in the Tijuana metropolitan area and southern beach city of the San Diego – Tijuana international metropolitan region.
Rosarito grew over the past 90 decades into a mecca for Californians, looking for a more economical lifestyle with all of the amenities that they enjoyed before becoming permanent residents in Baja California. The entire town of Rosarito has an abundance of nightlife, shopping, pharmacies, banks, markets, and medical services.
In September 1996, James Cameron’s production team moved to the newly built Fox Baja Studios in Rosarito, where a full scale RMS Titanic had been constructed for the 1997 film, in which Fox acquired 40 acres (16 ha) of waterfront south of Rosarito Beach.
The breaks at Rosarito Beach vary between quick beach breaks and a few long reef and point wedges. Surf is pretty consistent and is best on a medium tide. Summers are the most popular seasons. Rosarito Beach breaks are popular with local surfers and gringos alike, but the line up will never be crowded.
